The Creation Generation
HOW CREATION GAMING IS REVOLUTIONISING EDUCATIONAL ENGAGEMENT FOR GENERATION ALPHA
I'm so excited to finally share something that's been brewing for over a year—a project very close to my heart, “The Creation Generation.” A groundbreaking research study, crafted in partnership with The Walton Family Foundation and Dubit, which represents one of my most ambitious endeavours yet.
Throughout 2023, I dove headfirst into the vibrant world of creation gaming platforms like Minecraft and Roblox, in the largest research effort ever undertaken in this space to explore the impact of these immersive creative playgrounds on the learning and development of Generation Alpha.
With over 2,000 young participants, this study aims to shed new light on the transformative potential they possess within the educational landscape.
Here are just a few of the highlights…
Cognitive Growth Through Gaming
Our research uncovers that children view Minecraft and Roblox as powerful tools for enhancing critical cognitive abilities. These platforms go beyond play; they serve as dynamic environments where kids can bolster their creativity and problem-solving capabilities—skills that are vital for academic success and everyday challenges. This discovery points to a revolutionary approach to learning, where education is not only effective but deeply engaging.
Character Development in Virtual Worlds
The second key finding of our study illustrates that Minecraft and Roblox are pivotal in nurturing character development. Children link their interactive experiences in these games with the cultivation of essential life skills such as a growth mindset, proactivity, and social intelligence. These attributes are crucial for personal development, leading to enhanced academic achievements, higher self-efficacy, and greater life satisfaction.
Educational Transformation Through Play
Moreover, our findings reveal a significant enthusiasm among children for integrating these gaming platforms into formal education. The majority express a keen interest in learning core subjects such as coding, art, and design through Minecraft and Roblox, suggesting these platforms are effective as educational tools.
And that's just scratching the surface. The white paper and detailed research findings are brimming with further insights. These include expert perspectives from leading professionals who are navigating this exciting new territory, a deeper exploration of educational initiatives by Roblox and Minecraft, and an analysis of the profound and positive impacts these platforms have on what we've affectionately termed “The Creation Generation.”
This name stems from the observations at the heart of the study—that these kids are distinguished by their unprecedented technological savvy, their innate drive for creativity, collaboration, and a practical, hands-on approach to learning, equipping them exceptionally well for a future geared toward co-creation and innovation.

And of course, I haven’t forgotten my daily stomping grounds—brands, marketing, and entertainment—so I've branched out from the educational focus of our 'Creation Generation' study to craft a specialised talk.
This presentation delves into the nuanced research findings and equips you to traverse the new terrain of emerging dynamics and behaviours; such as the significance of shared presence, the nuts and bolts of digital toolkits, the exploration of identity through avatars, and the burgeoning expectation of co-creation—a fresh paradigm for brands to decipher and adopt.
Let me be clear: this isn't just another surface-scratch overview of Generation Alpha. Instead I’m digging into concrete research and real-deal insights from actual kids, to paint a comprehensive picture of their needs, motivations, values, and the expectations they have as they shape and interact with the world.
