So beautifully written. The act of surrender especially hit home. Never has something changed me so momentously for the better than motherhood. Which was such a surprise as I had told myself for so long that all it would do would deplete me and my abilities. And well done for doing the work on yourself. Bloody hell that work IS HARD. I've found my 30s brutal at times to just push through... but without that commitment to being better then we wouldn't be where we are now. Cheers to 40 indeed - the best is yet to come. Happy Birthday!
This is probably an inadequate expression of how much I loved this article but... YESSSSS!!!!! I hope every woman in the world reads this beautiful work of art and truth. I hope one day to meet you for a virtual coffee and hear more of this story!
Such a wonderful read. The challenge is that wisdom can be wasted on the youth but that’s okay too. Perhaps writings like yours accelerate the process here and there and that is already beneficial. My wife and I, and my ex (the mother of my daughter) and her husband wrote a little life-lessons book together that we gave to my daughter when she turned 18. Written with similar intent, four people sharing what they’ve learned for a younger generation, in this case our daughter. It was a great experience to write and give!
I've always admired your way with words, but this was just so beautifully written. "Perfectionism isn’t about being your best self; it’s about keeping yourself small, safe, and stuck" is a gut punch of a statement, but a much needed one. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and Happy Birthday!
This is fantastic. Thanks for writing so many useful and insightful lessons. While I agree wholeheartedly with #6, #14, #18, #23, #24, #30, #31, and #37… #7 is my favorite: “Not everyone is going to get it, not everyone is going to meet you where you are, and that’s not a reflection of your worth. People can only connect with you to the depth that they’ve connected with themselves.” Couldn't agree more! Best wishes to you on your natal day.
Yesssss. There are countless gems here I wished I'd known or listened to in my years in the biz, when my inner voice was whispering Is this totally off base, or am I? Thank you for so generously sharing them all with us, Zoe, and happy 40th! This is when you start being the badass woman you always admired growing up. Keep shining your light.
Gardening is a connection that many women of our generation just didn't know they were missing. Some still don't. Forget workshopping at the LIA's, throw a bunch of women in a potting shed and see what comes out the other end. Congrats on hitting 40, and welcome to the club ❤️
